Successful Eradications

BIISC’s eradication work focuses mainly on plants. It can take years or even decades to fully eradicate a plant, as known sites must be monitored regularly and retreated as new keiki emerge. And as invasive species continue to arrive on our island every year, there is always the chance an eradicated species may be re-introduced – meaning public education and awareness about these species must continue. Here are some of the species BIISC has declared fully eradicated from the island in recent years. Our current targets, several of which are approaching complete eradication status, can be reviewed here.

Pampas Grass

Jerusalem Thorn

Princess Tree

Purple Toad Flax

Axis Deer
