  • Outreach & Education Assistant

The Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) is currently seeking one motivated individual to join our team and contribute to the protection of Hawaiʻi’s unique ecosystems. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of science, community, and on-the-ground conservation, supporting efforts to prevent, detect, and manage invasive species on Hawaiʻi Island. Outreach & Education Assistant

Type: Full-time; Job ID: #226070
Location: Hilo

Monthly Salary: $3,525/month

Duties:

  • Assists with planning, organizing, and carrying out community outreach and environmental education programs and events for BIISC. This may include classroom and field-based workshops and tabling efforts.
  • Assists with designing displays, presentations, flyers, handouts, brochures, and related materials for use in community outreach efforts.
  • Assists with outreach to community members through email newsletters and social media posts.
  • Responds to and documents community reports and inquiries via in-person contact, email, social media, or phone.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a position requiring interaction with the public
  • Basic knowledge of Hawai‘i’s environmental and cultural history
  • Ability to assist in field projects, including surveys and data collection
  • Valid driver’s license
