What are Invasive Species?
Invasive species threaten our environment, economy, agriculture, human health, and/or quality of life. Invasive species are not native to Hawaii, they were introduced either intentionally or accidentally by humans. Invasive species generally reproduce quickly and are able to spread from their initial intended area.
BIISC Priority Species
We concentrate our efforts on species that pose the highest threat to the Big Islands ecosystem and quality of life. These invasive plants have the greatest feasibility of eradication due to their limited distribution. Therefore, the following invasive plants are priority species actively controlled by BIISC. If you see any of these species please contact us!
