Description: A giant primeval-looking fern that produces massive globular trunks and gigantic leaves. Can grow up to 12′ tall. Reproduces by windblown spores and vegetatively by rhizomes.
Leaves: It has the largest of any fern in the world. They can grow up to 25′ long. The leaves extend from the globular rootstock and can get up to 5′ high. The petiole can be 6″ in diameter.
Elevation: 0-4,500 feet
Impacts: Giant fronds shade out native species. Long life spans.
