Albizia trees are considered an invasive species in Hawaii and on many other Pacific Islands. They grow rapidly and spread quickly in wet environments, shedding large branches causing damage to houses, power lines and other utilities.
This workshop we will explore the history of Albizia in Hawaii, it’s impact on our native environment, economic costs and the potential threats to our communities and infrastructure. Control methods, herbicides, safe treatment and the current eradication efforts of our state and county will also be discussed.
A hands-on volunteering opportunity will be available April 9th at
Kalapana Seaview Estates.
